The Club’s Family Fest sponsored by the Lisburn City Council was a huge success and full credit must be attributed to the Fest Committee for organizing an action packed and enjoyable week end of activities and events.

It was a case of déjà vu in the Senior Gaelic and Hurling seven a-side tournaments as the holder’s St Brigids and Rossa retained their titles.  St Brigid’s won the Joe Herron Cup with a narrow win over St Paul’s in an exciting final while Rossa lifted the Michael McGuigan Shield defeating Sean Tracey’s , Lurgan in a high scoring and absorbing contest.

Our Under 12 and Under 16 footballers recorded challenge  victories over Sarsfield’s and Carryduff respectively and the  Under 14 Hurlers had a comfortable league victory over St Teresa’s while our ladies footballers were beaten by Randalstown.

James Doone became the champion of the ockey while Kevin Finnegan won the PoolCompetition. Fred Heatley and  Michael   Humphries  presented  very informative talks on local history and  Robbie Hannon provided us with a fascinating insight into the history of traditional music.

Boxers from St Agnes’ and St Oliver Plunkett Clubs served up a quality bill of bouts at our Fight Night and the charismatic Master of Ceremonies Harry McGavock  generated an exciting atmosphere . Fight of the night was between the club’s David Pretty Boy Lynch and Johnny Hit Man McCann which ended in a draw.

On Saturday morning we were fortunate to escape the rain and just over a hundred participated and completed the scenic Black Mountain walk and the highlight of the walk was the release of red and white balloons at the top. On return to the club the walkers received a quality buffet and then enthusiastically enjoyed the Crazy Kenny  Disco  Road show.

On Saturday night our 70’s Disco and barbecue was a hugely enjoyable and entertaining night. Members entered into the spirit of the night and the Fest  and dressed up in an array of colorful and  impressive 70’s costumes such as John Travolta, Abba, Bay City Rollers and Hippies etc and along  with DJ Manuel Molloy generated a great atmosphere and night of music nostalgia. The patrons were also entertained by  young Frank Sinatra - Liam McMullan and were served up a high quality barbecue cuisine by our own cordon bleu chefs.

On Sunday we again were fortunate with the weather and there was a large congregation at our Open Air Mass which was celebrated by  Rev Fr David Delargy PP and music was provided by the talented Loch Lao Traditional Folk Group.

Our Family Fun Day attracted a large crowd and they all experienced a fun day in the sun and parent’s and children participated with a high level of enthusiasm  in the many fun activities on offer such as Sports like egg and spoon races and wheelbarrow races, Inflatable Assault Course, Gladiators Duel , Hockey, Cricket , etc   and adopted Club member , DJ Crazy Kenny created a party atmosphere as he spun the discs and held an impromptu karaoke.  Another successful and popular activity was the opportunity to get a conducted tour of a Fire Engine and try out some of the equipment thanks to a very friendly and courteous crew from Springfield Station.

The Challenge game between parent’s  and Mentors was a keenly contested and exciting game which ended in a draw. The Family Fun day concluded with an exciting climax when the local Road Construction crew defeated the parent’s in a very competitive contested tug of war but the parent’s gained revenge by being victorious in the Gladiator Duel.

After an energy packed day everyone was glad to take time out in the sun and relaxed with another delicious barbecue provided again by our resident cordon bleu chefs.

The Fest came to a successful conclusion with a successful Golf Classic @ Dunmurry Golf Club. The Family Fest Committee will now take a well earned and deserved break but will be soon planning next years Fest which has now become an integral part of the club’s busy calendar of events.
